"Argentina, 1985" también quedó en la shorlist de los BAFTA

La lista dada a conocer también incluye a la actriz cubana Ana de Armas, por su papel de Marilyn Monroe en Blonde, y las películas de Guillermo del Toro Pinocchio, y de Alejandro González Iñárritu Bardo, falsa crónica de unas cuantas verdades.

Pinocchio, es precandidata en cuatro categorías: mejor película de animación, guión adaptado, banda sonora (de Alexandre Desplat), y diseño de producción.

Tanto la mexicana Bardo, falsa crónica de unas cuantas verdades como la argentina Argentina, 1985, esta última nominada también a los Globos de Oro, son semifinalistas al BAFTA de película en lengua no inglesa, junto a otras favoritas del año, como Sin novedad en el frente (Alemania, de Edward Berger), Close (Bélgica, Lukas Dhont), Corsage (Austria, de Marie Kreutzer) y Decisión de partir (Corea del Sur, de Park Chan-wook).

EO (Polonia, de Jerzy Skolimowski), Holy Spider (coproducción europea hablada en persa, de Ali Abbasi), The Quiet Girl (Irlanda, hablada en gaélico, de Colm Bairéad) y RRR (India, de S.S. Rajamouli), completan la nómina de films de habla no inglesa que también integran la categoría.

Otra latino nominado es el chileno Sebastián Lelio, junto a Alice Birch, por la adaptación cinematográfica de la novela de Emma Donoghue para El prodigio.

En el conjunto de la lista de semifinalistas a los BAFTA, cuyas candidaturas definitivas se conocerán el 19 de enero, destacan dos títulos, la producción alemana de Netflix Sin novedad en el frente (15 precandidaturas) y la irlandesa Los espíritus de la isla (14).

También aparecen Elvis y Todo en todas partes al mismo tiempo (ambas con 12 menciones) y TÁR (8 menciones) y Aftersun (con 8).
